Introduction

  • What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a common cosmetic procedure at our clinic. It requires no surgery, and does not require a lot of downtime.

A skin peel treatment is used to resurface and improve the appearance of your skin and your skin health by using a chemical solution.

Chemical peels can be used on many different areas of the skin, such as the arms, legs, hands, neck and back. However, chemical peels are most commonly associated with use on the face.

  • What kind of skin types are chemical peels suitable for?

Our chemical peels are suitable for all skin types, including Black, Caucasian, Asian and Mixed heritage.

Our chemical peels can be used to treat a wide range of different skin concerns. The skin concerns we treat include:

    • Pigmentation and hyperpigmentation
    • Acne and acne scars
    • Fine lines and wrinkles
    • Dark spots and age spots
    • Rosacea
    • Dry and dull skin
    • Melasma
    • Uneven skin tone
  • How do chemical skin peels work?

These skin treatments work by deeply exfoliating the skin and removing dead skin cells which triggers the skin’s healing response and promotes the production of collagen. We can offer peels at different potency levels depending on your particular skin concerns.

At The Wellington Clinic, we offer two different kinds of chemical peel treatment. The Perfect Peel offers a medium level of potency while the Radiance Blue Peel offers a superficial peel. With a few medium depth peels you can achieve similar results to a deep peel but with fewer complications and side effects.

  • What is a medium peel?

A medium peel penetrates more layers of skin than a superficial peel and delivers the powerful peeling agents at a deeper level.

With this kind of chemical peel solution, you will usually find that your skin develops mild peeling and crusting. We would recommend 3-6 sessions of a medium peel to see the best results.

  • What is a superficial peel?

A superficial peel simply works on the outermost layers of the skin.

Our treatment plan typically recommends at least 3-6 sessions to see the best results with this kind of treatment.

Typically, minimal peeling is expected with this treatment.

The Perfect Peel

The Perfect Peel can transform your skin in just one week! After The Perfect Peel treatment your skin will look and feel younger and healthier. This treatment requires no-pre chemical peel skin preparation and minimal downtime.

The Perfect Peel takes 15 minutes to apply and is almost pain-free. Dr Marjan Goodacre is an expert trained professional and will ensure that you get the best results for your skin while using The Perfect Peel chemical peel.

What ingredients does The Perfect Peel contain?

All the ingredients present in The Perfect Peel are present in concentrations less than 12% minimising adverse reactions. The Perfect Peel has been meticulously crafted to ensure that you’ll see transformative results.

The Perfect Peel contains Glutathione, Kojic Acid, TCA, Retinoic Acid, Phenol, Salicylic Acid and a blend of minerals and vitamins, including vitamin C.

Glutathione is an antioxidant and will neutralise the harmful effects of Free Radicals. It will slow down the ageing process and prevent wrinkles. Kojic acid is used in The Perfect Peel as a powerful lightning agent to treat hyperpigmentation. Kojic acid is also used to increase collagen and elastin production, making your skin tighter and brighter.

To reduce wrinkles and correct pigmentation issues, TCA, Phenol and Retinoic acid are used. Salicylic acid exfoliates your skin and will reduce inflammation.

The Perfect Peel can also be combined with a number of Boosters to really tailor the treatment and enhance the results. The Clear Booster can be used to target and specifically treat acne. The Plus Booster can be used to increase the strength of the peel by 25% and the Plus Plus Booster containing hydroquinone can be used to specifically treat hyperpigmentation even better. The Boosters can be used on future peels after your first Perfect Peel.

Radiance Blue Peel

Blue Peel Radiance by Obagi contains a blend of Salicylic acid, Glycolic acid and Lactic Acid.

This expertly blended formula will provide a gentle but effective chemical peel.

How does Radiance Blue Peel improve your skin?

Radiance Blue Peel will give your skin a tighter, more youthful appearance. Your skin texture will improve in just one session.

If you want to improve the appearance of acne, photodamage or melasma, Salicylic acid based chemical peels could be the best option for you.

Radiance Blue Peel will effectively exfoliate the upper layers of damaged skin, leaving behind glowing skin.

Radiance Blue Peel contains 20% Salicylic acid and 2% Lactic and 2% Glycolic acids. It has a Ph level of 2.7ph.

Chemical Peel London FAQs

  • What skin conditions are chemical peels used to treat?

Chemical peels can be used for a wide range of different skin complaints, from acne, ageing and rosacea to dull or dry skin. Chemical peels are also suitable for use on oily skin.

  • How is a skin peel carried out?

At your initial consultation with Dr Marjan Goodacre, we will discuss whether you need any treatment prior to your skin peel, based on your skin type and the particular skin concerns you want to treat.

We’ll discuss with you whether your skin and concerns are suitable for a chemical peel treatment.

When you come to us to receive your chemical peel treatment, we’ll gently cleanse your face before applying the chemical peel.

We’ll leave on the chemical peel treatment for the required time, and you will be given aftercare advice for optimum results.

  • How long will a skin peel take?

Typically, a skin peel procedure will take around 30 minutes.

  • Are chemical peels painful?

Our chemical peels are not painful, and many of our clients will only feel a slight tingling on the skin.

Serious side-effects from chemical peels are incredibly rare and more relevant to deep peels, but can include scarring or infection. You may see some post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, but this should subside, shortly after treatment.

However, you’re in safe hands with Dr Marjan Goodacre, and she will expertly ensure that the risk of these side-effects are greatly minimised.

  • How long will the results last for?

With each client, the duration of the results will vary. For maximum results, we would recommend that you keep protecting your skin as recommended for the aftercare.

This includes keeping yourself hydrated, applying sunscreen all year round and avoiding picking at the skin.

Skin picking can cause irritation and scarring and could very well reverse some of the effects you’ve achieved with the skin peel.

  • How many chemical peels will I need?

The number of chemical peels that you’ll need will depend on which chemical peel you opt for and the results you wish to obtain.

If you choose the Perfect Peel, we advise you to have 3-6 sessions of this peel to see the best results. For the Radiance Blue Peel, we would recommend at least 3 sessions.

  • Are there any risks I should be aware of?

As with every aesthetic procedure there are some risks involved with chemical peels.

When the peel is applied, you should expect some soreness and tingling at the time and then itching and peeling in the following days after the chemical peel treatment is over.

  • What does the recovery time look like?

If you choose a superficial peel, recovery time is around 1-5 days, whereas medium level peels will take around 7 days to heal properly.
