What Are Veneers?

Cosmetic dental veneers are ultra-thin shells of enamel like porcelain that are handcrafted by expert dental ceramists.

Ultra-thin veneers are permanently bonded to the front of the teeth. Veneers can cover severely discoloured, poorly shaped or slightly crooked, chipped or worn teeth and make them look amazing.

Veneers are used to correct uneven spaces or gaps, or to lighten front teeth that are naturally yellow or grey which can’t be whitened by bleaching.

Before & After

Veneers can be used to correct congenital malformations such as peg shaped lateral incisors and retained baby teeth. With our beautifully made porcelain veneers we can correct the shape of teeth and disguise baby teeth into adult teeth. These smile transformations have been life changing for our patients.

The Veneer Procedure

The London dental veneer procedure can be completed in two dental visits over the course of 2 weeks. The visits to our dental veneers clinic are comprehensive and can require several hours of examination and tooth preparation.

We work with you to select the best tooth colour or maybe a number of shades for extra detail and harmony. As a part of this process, we occasionally recommend teeth whitening before you begin the porcelain veneer treatment to achieve the best results.

Based on diagnostic wax-up models, we will determine dimensions of London porcelain veneers that will suit your face and then we advise how much tooth structure needs to be altered if any. Whenever possible, we opt for prepless veneers to preserve your tooth structure.

We then take an impression or digital scan of your teeth from which a model of your mouth will be made. We also take numerous digital photos to communicate to the master ceramist the desired results.

Reasons to get dental veneers

Considering a smile upgrade? Here are the top reasons to choose dental veneers for a brighter, confident look.

  • Improve stained teeth

Over time, natural teeth can become discoloured due to factors like coffee, red wine, tobacco, and certain medications. While teeth whitening treatments can address some of these stains, they might not always achieve the desired results. Veneers, with their thin porcelain shells are custom-made to fit over the front surface of your teeth, presenting a bright and natural appearance. Not only do they mask stubborn stains, but they also resist future discoloration, ensuring a consistently radiant smile.

  • Improve chipped or damaged teeth

Veneers are a game-changer for those with chipped or damaged teeth. Accidents, wear, or even biting into hard foods can lead to unsightly chips or damage. When affixed to the front surface of the affected tooth, a veneer seamlessly blends in, restoring the tooth’s natural shape and appearance. Beyond just aesthetics, veneers provide a protective shield, preventing further damage or wear.

  • Gain self-confidence

Veneers can be transformative not just for one’s smile, but also for their self-confidence. A radiant, flawless smile often translates to increased self-assuredness in social, professional, and personal settings. Imperfections like stains, gaps, or misalignments, no matter how minor, can sometimes make individuals self-conscious or hesitant to smile freely. Veneers address these concerns by offering a custom-made, natural-looking solution that revitalises one’s appearance.

Before & After

10 veneers to improve the size of the teeth and the spaces between the teeth. No anaesthetic. No drilling. No tooth reduction. Not only were the teeth not touched prior to having veneers but the veneers will in fact provide extra strength and support to the teeth.

FAQs

  • How long do veneers last?

Porcelain dental veneers typically grace your smile for a remarkable 10 to 20 years.

With their stellar durability and resistance to everyday stains, dental veneers are a favourite for those seeking a lasting transformation.

To keep them shining, simply maintain regular dental hygiene, be mindful of hard foods, and pop in for routine dental visits.

  • What are temporary veneers?

Since there is an approximately two week period to fabricate the ceramic veneers, temporary veneers are fabricated and fitted. The temporaries will give you a preview of the expected outcome and also help us identify adjustments that may be needed during the fabrication of the permanent tooth porcelain veneers.

  • Do veneers damage your teeth?

Veneers do not damage your teeth if the teeth are not cut down extensively as for crowns. If the teeth are already in a good position to receive veneers then they may not need any filing down or cutting. In these ideal cases, veneers can simply be placed over the top of the teeth. In some cases veneers can even be protective if the tooth underneath is worn or damaged. In the past, adhesives were not as strong as they are today and teeth were cut down to a peg and a cap/crown was made over the top. Now, adhesives are so strong that veneers can be made to cover just the front surface of the tooth. Veneers can now be made as thin as 0.3-0.5 mm. In some cases the tooth does not need any filing or reduction as there is sufficient space for the veneer to cover it.

  • Can you eat and brush normally with veneers?

You can eat normally with veneers. It is advised to avoid biting into hard foods especially any biting motion that may act as a lever. We would suggest to avoid biting into items such as apples, chocolate bars and crusty rolls for example. Veneers do not break or fall off if you are careful with them and if they have been put on by an experienced dentist.

  • Will veneers stain and can I whiten them?

Porcelain/ceramic veneers do not stain as they have a shiny smooth surface. Composite veneers on the other hand are more prone to staining. Veneers can not be whitened. It is therefore necessary to make sure you choose a colour that you will be happy with long term.

  • How much do veneers cost in London?

Ceramic veneers will vary in price depending on the dentist and the technician who makes the veneers. Well made ceramic veneers will generally cost £750-£1200 for each tooth. This will include all the appointments, preparation and fitting. An individual veneer may sometimes be more expensive than a set of veneers as it is harder for the dentist and technician to match an individual veneer to the neighbouring teeth. Before the veneers are actually made you will most likely need to have a diagnostic mock up of the end result. This will also cost around £500 for one arch to be mocked up.

  • What type of veneer is best?

There are two main types of veneer; eMax and empress. The dentist will be the best person to advise you on which would be better for you. EMax veneers are stronger and will be less likely to chip or break. Empress veneers may be more natural looking but will not be as strong as Emax.

  • What is the procedure for veneers?

For veneers you would normally need 3 appointments. The first appointment is the consultation to discuss what you want and impressions to create a model of the desired end result. The second appointment is to make any necessary preparations to the teeth and take impressions of the teeth for construction of the final veneers. At this appointment temporary veneers of the end result will also be made. At the third appointment the veneers will be bonded to your teeth and you will have your beautiful smile.
